The Bulloch Academy boys advanced to the Region title game knocking off Robert Toombs 64-62 as Taylor Burke's bucket with 2 seconds left proved to be the game winner. In the girls semifinal match-up Bulloch Academy fell to Curtis Baptist 38-23.

The NCAA finally handed down sanctions to the men's basketball program for academic fraud. Georgia Southern was found guilty of "major violations" regarding academic fraud during the 2007-08 basketball season. GSU has been forced to vacate all wins from the 07-08 and 08-09 seasons during which 2 players found guilty of academic fraud participated. In addition the Eagles lose 1 scholarship for each of the next 2 years and are limited in the number of recruiting visits.

The Georgia Southern Eagles rebounded nicely from their 44-6 loss to South Dakota State with an impressive 27-3 win over Western Carolina. The Portal Panthers came back from a 17-0 hole to cut the lead to 17-13 but were unable to get any closer as a later interception sealed the deal and Portal fell 23-13.
The Bulloch Academy Gators opened the 2009 season with a 51-8 victory at David Emanuel. The Gators were led by Ellis Land who piled up 194 yards rushing and 4 TD's on the night.
GSU Volleyball team going door to door for support
The Georgia Southern volleyball is pulling out all the stops this season giving their all on and off the court. In an effort to help put fans in the seats they have been holding clinics at vrious clubs and schools and are even going door to door handing out schedule cards and encouraging people of the Statesboro community to come to games this year, or attend their free clinic Saturday from 1-3 at Hanner Fieldhouse.
